Food Review: Amazon Meal Kit Lamb Ragu

Basic Info about Amazon Boxes:

  • Feeds two adults.
  • All ingredients are included except the Olive Oil, Vegetable Oil, Salt and Pepper.
  • Prices vary between $17 to $22
  • Directions are included with picture of the final meal
  • Most ingredients are already chopped for you but there are some ingredients that need to be chopped or cut/sliced while something else is cooking.

Now on to my review of the Lamb Ragu with Ricotta, Mint & Casarecce Pasta:

  • Cost $18.99
  • Net Weight of about 2 pounds
  • Lasts up to 2 to 3 days in the fridge before it expires. Expiration is always on the box.
  • Made the dinner between 30 to 45 minutes.
  • Meat net weight was less than 1 pound. I suggest you purchase an additional package of meat at the nearest supermarket if you need more protein and/or left overs.
  • The pasta that is included is NOT enough for two people. Maybe two people who do not eat as much or on strict minimalistic diet, then ok. But for two people who love food and feeling satisfied, I suggest you supplement the pasta with 2/3 packet of a 16 ounce/1 pound package of Penne Pasta. If you use 2/3 of the packet you will have a nice lunch for the next day. I love leftovers!
  • The sour cream is enough for the meal but if you want to add that nice texture and taste to your lunch meal, buy an additional small container of sour cream.
  • The recipe includes Roasted Yellow Tomatoes and Roasted Red Tomatoes. I also suggest you purchase additional tomatoes, about 1 tablespoon more.
  • The recipe does not tell you to chop the Roasted Yellow Tomatoes, but I think you should if you do not like eating a chunky amount of tomatoes in your mouth at the same time.
  • The sauce does take about 10 minutes to form into a nice texture for the pasta.
  • Scale of 1 to 10 for a Meal regarding taste: 9; with 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest.
  • Scale of 1 to 10 for an Amazon Meal Kit regarding taste: 10
  • Scale of 1 to 10 on level of difficulty: 3; 1 being the easiest and 10 being the most difficult.
  • This meal is absolutely delicious and easy to make. It is one of my favorites and I hope they bring this back. My only gripe is the amount of pasta that is included. Come on Amazon, we are hungry people that need to feel full!

Food Review: Amazon Meal Kit Steak Au Poivre with Fries & Snap Peas

Amazon Meal Kits are the best, especially when you can whip up a meal with ease with little to no chopping or prepping involved. My cutting skills are sub par and I am incredibly slow with chopping. I am not MaterChef status or even the Junior version. So sad, I know. But I can follow directions and read pretty well.

Now on to my review of the Steak Au Poivre:

  • Cost $18.99
  • Net Weight of 2 pounds 13 ounces (1.28 kg)
  • Lasts up to 2 to 3 days in the fridge before it expires. Expiration is always on the box.
  • Made the dinner between 30 to 45 minutes.
  • Meat net weight was less than 1 pound. I suggest you purchase an additional package of meat at the nearest supermarket if you need more protein and/or left overs.
  • Good amount of potatoes for the fries. I suggest you cut the fries close to 1/4 of an inch. I mistakenly sliced them really thin and the fries did not end up nice and crispy.
  • Packets of garlic powder and parmesan cheese were very minimal so I suggest you add a bit more to add an extra “kick” to your fries. I would use an additional tsp or two of both the garlic power and the cheese.
  • In addition to the garlic power and parmesan cheese, I would also use additional sliced almonds. I would use about 1 more tablespoon.
  • The sauce took longer than 5 minutes to create a creamy texture. I suggest about 15 minutes.
  • Follow the precise directions on how to cook the steak. The only recommendation is to decrease the time by one minute in the oven to have a more medium rare steak.
  • The snap peas were cooked to perfection. I recommend to not fry them for any longer than the recommended time.
  • Scale of 1 to 10 for a Meal regarding taste: 8; with 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest.
  • Scale of 1 to 10 for an Amazon Meal Kit regarding taste: 8
  • Scale of 1 to 10 on level of difficulty: 4; 1 being the easiest and 10 being the most difficult. The first time I baked the fries I screwed up, but the second time the fries came out better. This is probably because I sliced the potatoes too thin the first time.
  • I would recommend this meal because it contained a piece of protein, a side of starch and greens. It was pretty filling but not enough room for leftovers or extra. I highly suggest adding an additional steak and possibly one to two more potatoes for extra fries.

Food Review: Amazon Meal Kit Chicken Piccata

Life gets busy and sometimes I find it difficult to whip up a meal. Okay, I lie, I struggle with finding a decent meal to make because I am not Martha Stewart or Rachel Ray. I can not even say that I am a decent cook. I am more like, “let me browse through Pinterest and find something easy to make that looks good”. Yep, that’s more like the truth.

With that in mind, I have discovered a treasure: Amazon Meal Kits sold at an Amazon Go location. There are three Amazon Go locations in the city, New York City that is: 1) Midtown Manhattan on Park Ave and 2) Financial District and 3) On 53rd St and 2nd Avenue.

Now on to my review of the Chicken Piccata:

  • Cost $17.99
  • Net Weight of 2 pounds/14 ounces.
  • Lasts up to 2 to 3 days in the fridge before it expires. Expiration is always on the box.
  • Made the dinner between 30 to 45 minutes because I am slooooow.
  • Chicken net weight was 0.63 pounds. I suggest you purchase an additional package of chicken at the nearest supermarket if you need more protein and/or left overs.
  • Extremely small packet of Gemelli Pasta that would only feed one person. I suggest you purchase Penne pasta and use about 2/3 of a 16 ounce /1 pound packet. You will have enough to eat with additional left overs.
  • Packet of “Spiced Flour Blend” was very minimal but just enough to coat all the chicken. It did not leave room for any spillage of the flour and I was struggling to coat the last piece of chicken. Add a tablespoon more of flour, add salt and pepper and mix it with the “Spiced Flour Blend”.
  • The Panko was enough but you may want to add another tablespoon, particularly if you are adding additional chicken.
  • The sauce took longer than 9 minutes to create a creamy texture. I suggest about 15 minutes.
  • The recipe called to cook the chicken 2 minutes on both sides. I suggest 3 minutes on both sides so you are not eating raw chicken.
  • Scale of 1 to 10 for a Meal regarding taste: 7; with 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest.
  • Scale of 1 to 10 for an Amazon Meal Kit regarding taste: 8
  • Scale of 1 to 10 on level of difficulty: 5; 1 being the easiest and 10 being the most difficult. I give this meal a 5 due to the amount of dishes I had to wash. Overall, if I had to only use 2 pans I would bump it down to a 3.
  • Have purchased this twice already so I highly suggest purchasing but I also think you should buy additional chicken and pasta to make this a more fulfilling meal.
