Children’s Game Review: Zingo

Zingo is a game very similar to Bingo but with a twist. The actual tagline for the game is, “Bingo with a Zing”, so I am pretty close. This is a game that my family and I have enjoyed playing some time now. It is a pretty simple to play with my five year old and it is still an enjoyable game, helping her image and word recognition skills.

Basic Info about Zingo:

  • Cost: $21.99
  • Ages 4 and up (3 years old could possibly play also)
  • 2 to 7 players
  • 7 boards doubled sided (green and red)
  • Green side is easier/less competitive (more chips for these images)
  • Red side is a bit more difficult/more competitive (less chips for these images)
  • Zingo slider with tiles with images and matching words (doubled sided with the same image and word)

Skills that are taught while playing (taken from the booklet):

  • Image and Word Recognition
  • Matching Skills
  • Vocabulary Skills
  • Observation and Perception
  • Concentration and Memory
  • Letter/sound Relationships
  • Fine Motor Skills and Coordination
  • Following Instructions
  • Taking Turns

Goal of the Game:

  • Be the first to cover all the rectangles on your board with Zingo Cards based on the tiles that appear when you slide the Zingo Slider.
  • To make the game more difficult you can create patterns with your boards by suggesting only covering diagonal rectangles or creating a picture frame.

Overall Opinion of the Game:

  • Great game for the whole family (can last up to 20 minutes the most for one round).
  • Good for 3 to 4 years old.
  • My daughter is 5 now and I am looking at the Zingo with Sight Words. A review will be up once I purchase it and have played it several times.
  • Highly recommend for family game night and teaching image and word recognition and memorization.
  • Other parents have purchased this game that we know and also really enjoy playing with their children.
