Children’s Game Review: Shopping List

One thing that my daughter struggles with is memory with what I had asked her to do one minute ago. Like girl, what’s wrong with you? How could you have forgotten what I just told you? Anyhoo, I decided that maybe a memory game could help her remember the things that I have told her. Or maybe she just ignores me whenever she wants. I digress… Okay, so let’s go back to my review of the game: “Shopping List” by Orchard Toys.

Here are the basics about the game:

  • Cost: $15.50 on Amazon
  • Ages 3 – 7 years old
  • 2 – 4 players
  • 4 Shopping Lists with 4 Carts/Carriage
  • 32 item cards
  • Add on Packs are available

Object of the Game:

  • Each player is given a shopping list and a cart/carriage to place their items on.
  • all 32 cards are placed face down.
  • Each player chooses one card at the time and flips it over. If the card matches what’s on your list, please it in your card. If the card does not match any of the items on the list, you place the card back face down.
  • The next player will choose a card and this is repeated until someone has found all the items on their shopping list and has placed all the cards on their cart/carriage.
  • The person who has completed their shopping list has won the game.

Skills that are being utilized:

  • Vocabulary for shopping list items
  • Memory skills
  • Matching Skills
  • Observational Skills
  • Taking Turns

Overall Opinion Of Shopping List Game:

  • This game is not challenging but an easy game to play with the family.
  • More geared towards 3 to 4 year olds
  • Fun game to pass the time.
  • Good game for memory skills but not as challenging if played with 2 players. It is more challenging with 3 to 4 players.
  • Overall, the game is fun for a quiet day/night in but it is not a game that I would recommend for kids who are 5 years or older if you want to challenge them.
