Love Letter #45

I thought I loved you

You were what I had imagined in my mind

but I think I was lying to myself

make believe you were someone else

you were kind, trusting and sincere

but to be honest, none of that was real

you were thoughtful and full of life

but you made empty promises of me becoming your wife

you opened the door for me and paid for my meals

but everything was actually a calculated deal

I didn’t see it coming because I was in my own little space

when you bought me flowers with diamonds and lace

I thought you were the real deal

promising our love with a seal

of a kiss

but I totally missed

all the messages the Universe was sending

all the missed calls you wouldn’t pick up on

all the times you gave low blow compliments

all the times when you hid your phone

all the times when you looked away at another woman

You were what I had imagined in my mind

But you were never really real after all this time

The “Love Letters” Series will be a collection of poetry written for and about love. Please comments below if you’re enjoying my thoughts and words. Some of these poems can be read as “Spoken Word” or a “Rap Song” or with a “Taylor Swift” angst, lol. – Peace and Love
