Love Letters: Guest Post Edition #1

The Love That Could Have Been

I scared you away with my feelings for you

Maybe you couldn’t see what I had shown was true

You came into my life like a hurricane

I didn’t think I could ever feel like that again

Turning my thoughts and my world upside down

I really believed you would stay around

We bared our thoughts, hearts, and souls to one another

And it felt like we both finally found the other

If only I could have touched your hand

But like an hourglass and the last grain of sand

Time was not on our side

Oh, how I longed to feel your lips against mine

But now it seems you are gone

And I am left to ponder what went wrong

Did I reveal too much of my heart?

Was that what pushed us apart?

Maybe you were not ready to receive

This heart on my sleeve, which I gave you for free

Due to the unfortunate pain of your past

You turned away something that could last

I was only ever honest about what I was feeling

But your happiness was truly fleeting

In the end it was not meant to be

For us to be in love and carefree

For you turned and pulled away

Scared of the love that could one day

Show you how beautiful true love can be

Who knows, maybe someday you will see…

Me.

This “Love Letter” is written from a dear friend of mine who I dated when I was in college. We recently reconnected on Facebook (lol) and he wrote this beautiful poem (not about me, lol). We hope you enjoy it and I am looking forward to sharing more of these poems written by Gabriel. – Peace and Love
