So I just arrived back from watching “Abominable” movie with my family. It quickly reminded me of a favorite growing up “E.T” due to its many similarities starting with a creature that important people are trying to capture and of course, the kids trying to rescue him.
As any kid’s movie would have it, there is always a misfit, and this one is named Yi who lives in Shanghai. She recently lost her father and she feels lost without him. One night she discovers a Yeti hiding on her roof hiding from a zoologist who is trying to recapture him. Of course Yi and the yeti becomes friends and Yi promises to take him back home to Mount Everest, where he belongs.
I do not want to spoil the movie, but as you know it has a happy ending. The yeti is reunited with his family and Yi discovers that she may have lost one family member but she still has her mother and grandmother who truly love her. She also discovers that her neighbors are valuable to her too (they do go on the adventure with her in reuniting the yeti with his family) and she sees them now as her family.
During the movie, Yi plays the violin, which used to belong to her father. While she plays it, she discovers that she has the magical ability to make flowers bloom. She is mesmerized and shocked that it was her and not the yeti that was making the flowers bloom whenever she played the violin. Throughout her sadness of losing her father, she would only play the violin at night whenever no one was watching. But as soon as the yeti needed to be soothed, she played for him and miraculously the flowers bloomed in her pot, without her knowledge that it was her who did that.
I honestly think that is how the Universe works. We end up doing things for others when they need it most but then we discover how special we are too. Even through our pain and sadness, we end up discovering that we can help others and at the same time heal ourselves. We learn that we are indeed strong individuals who have the magical ability to make anything “bloom” in our lives when we just do what we know is the right thing to do. We discover that the power lies in us and that we do not need to look for outside factors to make us stronger, when we already have the strength to move mountains ourselves.
Sometimes we need something, in this case a yeti, to help us realize our strengths and the power of our own mind. We sometimes cannot see it when we are by ourselves, but we end up seeing it when something pushes us that challenges us to be strong. We must sometimes need to go through an adventure to discover what lies in all of us. Every adventure is different for all of us, but how we respond to it helps us find out what we are all capable of. And we are so much more capable than we actually realize. It is our job to discover the magic that lies in ourselves and hopefully make ourselves better people. – Peace and Love
