Dear Daughter Part 1

Dear Daughter,

That first heart beat frightened me

here you were

a life forming inside my body

the most fearful I felt

was when I found out you were a girl

I didn’t want the world to knock you down

because of your femininity

I didn’t want the world to hold you back because of your softness

I didn’t want the world to push you around because you finally stood up for yourself

I didn’t want the world to define you because you were a girl

But here I was

Defining you already before you were even born

The “Dear Daughter” Series will be a collection of poetry written for and about my daughter. Please comment below if you’re enjoying my thoughts and words. – Peace and Love
